Nathan SchwartzOn July 9, 2008, the nation’s fastest texter was crowned. The battle of the QWERTY competition went down in NYC in the Roseland Ballroom. With tough qualifying rounds and MTV on the scene, it attracted serious challengers from all over the country. The contestants came armed with any activated LG Phone that had a QWERTY. It was a true competition of the best in U.S.
There could only be one winner.
Twenty-year old Nathan Schwartz from Clyde, Ohio, won the title and $50,000 in prize money for his speed-texting skills.
His fast and furious thumbs typed the winning phrase, “Does everyone know the alphabet? Let’s text. Here it goes…AbcDeFghiJKlmNoPQrStuvWXy&Z! Now I know my A-B-C’s, next time won’t you text with me?” in 60 seconds.
Schwartz called his mom as the confetti was falling in flurries on stage. “When I heard that I won I just wanted to scream,” he said. What’s he looking forward to? Spending it. Duh!
